Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Thursday called on research institutions to promote the application of technologies in earthquake prediction and disaster relief.

More efforts should be devoted to enhancing the monitoring and forecast of earthquakes to help the government better handle possible disasters and reduce losses, Hui said at a national conference on seismic science.

He suggested to put the focus of related scientific researches on continental structures, earthquake origins and its forecast.

He also encouraged relevant domestic institutions to develop their own technologies that can be applied in earthquake prediction and emergency rescue operations.
