Tsang will leave for Sydney next Wednesday together with other members of the Hong Kong, China delegation, including Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Frederick Ma and the Director-General of Trade and Industry Joseph Lai.

This year's APEC meeting will highlight the theme of " Strengthening our Community, Building a Sustainable Future."

The economic leaders from APEC members will deliberate on a wide range of regional economic issues, including the role of APEC in bringing a timely and successful conclusion of the World Trade Organization Doha Development Agenda negotiations, ways and means to promote greater regional economic integration and the reform of APEC.

They will also discuss issues fundamental to the growth and sustainable development in member economies, such as measures to cope with the harmful effects of climate change, as well as co- operation in energy security, clean development and human security.

Tsang will attend the APEC Business Summit on Sept. 6, at which Chinese President Hu Jintao will deliver a keynote speech.

After the APEC meeting, Tsang will leave for Wellington, New Zealand on Sept. 9 for a three-day visit to New Zealand.

Tsang will return to Hong Kong on Sept. 12. During his absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration Henry Tang, will be Acting Chief Executive.
