Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong met in Beijing with Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh on Tuesday, calling on the two armed forces to further cement cooperation and consolidate China-Vietnam friendship.
Hailing the progress of China-Vietnam relations in the past years, Zeng said the two countries have strengthened political trust, expanded trade cooperation and cemented exchanges in various areas.
China and Vietnam have the same social systems and faiths, and have broad consensus and common interests on many important issues, Zeng said.
Zeng said he was satisfied with the sound momentum for bilateral military relations, calling on the two armed forces to beef up cooperation and make positive contribution to consolidating China-Vietnam traditional friendship.
In response, Phung Quang Thanh told Zeng that a priority of Vietnam's foreign policy is to develop all-round cooperative ties with China. Vietnam hopes to strengthen political trust with China and enhance military cooperation.
Invited by Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan, Phung Quang Thanh is here on an official visit to China. The two defense ministers held official talks on Monday, and attended a signing ceremony of a cooperative agreement on frontier defense between the two defense ministries.
