Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, visited an international book exposition in the national capital Friday evening.

During his visit, the senior Party official urged the country's publishing sector to accelerate its pace of the market-driven reform and increase its strength and capacity of competition as a whole.

The government will organize a number of domestic publishers that are more capable and competitive to join in international competition and take a larger share of international market, he said.

Liu Yunshan, member of both the Political Bureau and Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, was present during Li's visit to the 14th Beijing International Book Fair.

The exposition is co-sponsored by five ministerial-level central government departments, Beijing's municipal government, and the Publishers Association of China.

It started on Thursday and lasts through September 3.
