The local court of Taipei held a secret hearing on the special funds case of Chen Shui-bian on Friday, according to reports by Taiwan-based media.

Chen's wife Wu Shu-chen did not show up at the court, though the court summons asked her to do so. Her lawyer said Wu was unwell and not able to appear at the court.

During the court hearing, the judges discussed the case. The lawyers applied to summon Chen Shui-bian to testify at the court, while the inspectors applied to summon Chen's son, daughter and son-in-law to testify at the court.

At the end, the judges asked the defendant and the inspectors to provide the court with complementary reasons for their respective applications.

Last November, local inspectors said Chen was suspected of graft and forging documents but acquitted him of prosecution for being Taiwan leader. The inspectors sued Wu for pocketing 14.8 million New Taiwan dollars in public money and being suspected of embezzlement and forging documents.
