One hundred and seventy Chinese peace-keepers returned home on Tuesday aboard a chartered plane , after completing their mission in Lebanon, according to military sources.
They are the first echelon of the 335-member second detachment of the Chinese peace-keeping troops to Lebanon, and the rest 165 members of the detachment will be back on September 14.
The second detachment, composing an engineering battalion and a medical team, arrived in Lebanon in January of 2007.
Since then, they have cleared up over 1,100 mines and other explosives in an area of 940,000 square meters, repaired 15,000 meters of roads, and installed protective wires, as well as attended over 2,100 local patients.
All the 335 soldiers and officers have been awarded "Peace-Keeping Medals" by the United Nations, while the battalion leader Luo Fuqiang was awarded a "Warrior" medal by the Lebanese Government.
In March of 2006, China dispatched its first detachment of peace-keepers to Lebanon.
The first echelon of the third detachment of the Chinese peace-keepers left home on Monday, to replace the second detachment.
