Lu Yongxiang, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) on Tuesday met Ogi Chikage, former Japanese president of House of Councillors.
Ogi and her husband Sakata Tojuro are heading a delegation of Japanese Kabuki to visit China. The delegation gave their first public performance in Beijing on Tuesday evening and will also bring the traditional Japanese artistic performance to major Chinese cities including Hangzhou and Shanghai in east China, and Guangzhou in south China.
In the meeting with Ogi, Lu expressed his appreciation for the positive efforts that the Ogi couple has made over the past years to promote Sino-Japanese friendship.
Lu said at the time of the 35th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations and the China-Japan culture and sports exchange year, the delegation's visit and performance in China are bound to play a positive role in furthering bilateral cultural exchanges, increasing mutual trust and understanding between the two peoples.
Ogi said she felt honored to have the opportunity to visit China together with her husband and two sons shortly after her retirement from the Japanese political circle. She was very satisfied to see her husband and sons to give performance to the Chinese audience.
Ogi noted her whole family were happy to contribute some efforts to promote Japan-China relations and she sincerely hoped the two countries could be friendly toward each other for ever.
The delegation came to China at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-Japan Friendship Association.
