Chinese top political advisor Jia Qinglin met in Beijing on Friday with Mahamane Ousmane, president of the National Assembly of the Republic of Niger, calling on the two sides to step up relations to a higher level.

Highlighting the progress made on the bilateral relations, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), noted that China and Niger already established sincere cooperation in various fields such as trade and culture and forged close coordination on the international issues.

Jia said that China highly values the ties with Niger and regards the country as one of the important cooperation partners, expressing his appreciation of Niger's adherence to the one-China policy and Niger's supports to China on the Taiwan issue in international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization.

Jia told Ousmane that the CPPCC shoulders the responsibility to boost friendly exchange and increase mutual understanding between the Chinese people and the people of other countries, saying that the CPPCC is willing to work with the Nigerian parliament and other institutions to conduct exchange and cooperation at various levels and in various forms.

Ousmane said he was very pleased to see the remarkable progress achieved on the bilateral relations and expressed his gratitude for China's long-term assistance to his country.

He reiterated that Niger attaches great importance to the relations with China and will continue to stick to the one-China policy.

Ousmane is paying an official visit to China at the invitation of Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress.
