China and Serbia vowed in Beijing on Thursday to step up the bilateral relations to "a higher level".

In the meeting with visiting Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong highlighted the China-Serbia relations as "an example" of relations between big and small-sized nations.

According to a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Zeng told Jeremic that China will make concerted efforts with the Serbian side to consolidate political mutual trust and expand the bilateral pragmatic cooperation in the various fields.

China appreciate Serbia's coherence to one-China policy and opposition to the Taiwan authorities' proposed referendum on UN membership in the name of Taiwan, Zeng noted.

Echoing Zeng's views on the bilateral relations, Jeremic said that the Serbian government highly values the ties with China and admire the remarkable achievements that China scored in the economic and social construction.

Serbia appreciates the role China plays in the international community and is willing to cement the exchange and cooperation with the country in the various fields in a bid to push forward the bilateral relations, Jeremic said.

He also reiterated that the Serbian government would continue to stick to the one-China policy, oppose to the Taiwan authorities' proposed referendum on UN membership in the name of Taiwan and support China's reunification process.
