A photo exhibition held in Vienna that portrays the life of ordinary Chinese people has drawn more than 7,000 visitors.
The exhibition, which features the work of more than 100 photographers from China and other countries, aims to reflect the social and economic development in China.
The photos focus on the life, work, leisure and entertainment of ordinary Chinese people and portray the 5,000-year Chinese civilization and the harmony among ethnic groups in China.
Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan was among the visitors to the exhibition at the Vienna International Center on Tuesday.
Annan said he was excited and some features in the photos represented his own feelings towards China.
He also spoke highly of the constructive role China plays in the international affairs.
Visitors to the exhibition showed unexpected interest in the publications about China provided at the exhibition. Some 20 minutes before the opening ceremony more than 1,000 publications about Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and China's Tibet had been taken away.
A Chinese diplomat told Xinhua that the photo exhibition showed the world China's influence as the biggest developing country in the world.
The exhibition, which opened on Monday, is jointly sponsored by China's State Council Information Office and the Chinese delegation to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna.
