Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi is to participate and address a high-level U.N. meeting on climate change slated for Sept. 24 in New York.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a regular press briefing Tuesday that China supports the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon to convene such a high-level meeting on climate change on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.

"We believe the countries should stick to multi-lateral efforts to tackle climate change problem, and make full play of the U.N.'s role," Jiang said.

China hopes the upcoming meeting could strengthen international exchanges, cooperation and negotiation on climate change, she said.
