China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Wednesday received a delegation from the Fujian Chamber of Commerce Macao Branch and encouraged them to contribute more to the prosperity of the special administrative region and the mainland-Macao cooperation.
"Since its establishment in 1995, the organization has done a lot of fruitful work in promoting understanding, friendship and business exchanges between the mainland and Macao," said Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
The commerce group comprises business people from east China's Fujian Province working in Macao.
Jia said over the past seven years after it returned to China, under the policy of "One Country, Two Systems" and the Basic Law of Macao, the region, carrying forward a patriotic tradition, had achieved remarkable progress in maintaining stability, developing economy and promoting social harmony.
He encouraged the commerce group to unite people of Fujian origin in Macao to contribute to the region's prosperity and further expand the non-governmental cooperation between Macao and Taiwan.
