Since the Democratic Progress Party (DPP) came to power in the year 2000, the Taiwan independence" forces have kept up with its activities for the desinification and "gradual independence" of Taiwan in a vain attempt to seek its "de jure independence" by "a constitutional amendment". Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian recently plunged himself into the so-called "referendum to join the United Stations" and moved farther ahead along the road of "Taiwan independence."
"Taiwan independence" jeopardizes state sovereignty, territorial integrity
Late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping said back in December 1989 that the state sovereignty and security had always to be placed at the first and foremost place. The national sovereignty independence and territorial integrity represent the core elements of the state security and particularly the political security of a nation.
From the angle of the national territorial safety, after his assumption of office in 2000, Chen Shui-bian proclaimed "four NOs and one without" pledge or the "Four NOs plus One" policy (which require Taiwan to refrain from declaring independence, changing the "national title", incorporating the concept of "state to state" between the island and the Chinese mainland, etc.) to ease pressures from all sides on one hand and, on the other hand, he ran wild for the "gradual independence of Taiwan" and "desinification" moves and set the position for the doctrine of "one country on each side", thus seriously menacing China''s territorial integrity.
Viewing from the ultimate goal of the "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces, either Lee Teng-hui or Chen Shui-bian, they all attempt to materialize their dream of "establishing an ‘independent nation" in a futile attempt to secede Taiwan from the motherland. The defense of territorial integrity and safeguarding of the unity of the motherland, however, concerns the security of China''s state sovereignty, from which no one can retreat or comprise. Hence, it can be said that it is the unyielding sacred mission of any Chinese government or any leader of the Chinese nation as well as the staunch resolve of the 1.3 billion Chinese people to ensure that Taiwan''s status as part of China is not to be altered.
Challenging the "One China'' framework internationally under the banner for the pursuit of "popular will, democracy and human rights", the Taiwan secessionist forces try desperately to seek support of the international community for their secessionist plots and thus provide excuses for Western hostile forces to meddle in China''s domestic affairs. The Taiwan issue is entirely China''s internal matter and any interference by foreign forces in China''s internal affair will inflict grave damages to the country''s state sovereignty, territorial integrity and national dignity.
