Chinese Vice-Premier Zeng Peiyan on Thursday called for intensified cooperation with Japan on energy conservation and environmental protection to face the challenge of climate change and push forward global sustainable development.
Addressing the Second China-Japan Forum on Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection, Zeng said China had worked out a series of policies and measures and called on all sectors of society to save energy and protect the environment.
Zeng said China would follow the path of new-type industrialization and urbanization with clean and safe development, and turn China into an energy-conserving and environment-friendly society.
The government would continue its efforts to optimize industrial structures by increasing the ratio of service and high-tech industries, quicken the steps of eliminating high energy-consuming and outdated facilities in power, iron and steel and other sectors, he said.
He also pledged to develop a recycling economy, accelerate pollution control and strengthen technological research on energy conservation.
Zeng suggested China and Japan should further improve their dialogue mechanism and enhance the exchanges on management expertise and advanced technology, especially the transfer of environmental protection technology.
Before the forum, Zeng met with Amari Akira, Japan's Economy, Trade and Industry Minister, Fujio Cho, chairman of Japan-China Association on Economy and Trade and other Japanese representatives.
About 1,000 officials, scholars and businessmen from both countries participated in the forum, exchanging views on electricity, automobile, electric machinery, energy-saving policies and energy-efficient buildings.
The two sides are expected to sign 10 agreements of cooperation at the forum, which is co-hosted by China's National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Commerce, and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Japan-China Association on Economy and Trade.
The first forum took place in Tokyo from May 29 to 31 last year.
