Bangladeshi President Iajuddin Ahmed reiterated here on Thursday that the Bangladesh government will firmly support one China policy.

When meeting with the visiting delegation of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) led by Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Wang Zhongyu, the president thanked China for its assistance to Bangladesh's flood victim recently as well as the assistance to support many projects in Bangladesh in the past years.

He said Bangladesh attaches great importance to the bilateral relations with China and hoped the two countries can work together to further promote the relations in terms of business, trade, culture and education in the days ahead.

Wang conveyed greetings from Chinese President Hu Jintao to Iajuddin Ahmed. He said China highly appreciates Bangladesh's stance on one China policy regarding Taiwan issue and Tibet issue.

Wang spoke highly of Bangladesh's efforts to feed a population of 140 million as it is not a big country. He also said as a friendly and neighboring country, China are always ready to help Bangladesh if needed.

Responding to Iajuddin Ahmed's concern about the trade imbalance between the two sides, Wang said China will make every effort to reduce the gap.

Wang Zhongyu also met with Speaker Jamiruddin Sircar of the Bangladesh Parliament later on Thursday. They agreed to promote exchanges between CPPCC and Bangladesh Parliament to boost the relations between the two countries.

The CPPCC delegation arrived here on Wednesday for a three-day good-will visit. This is the last stop of the delegation's three- nation visit which also covers India and Nepal.
