Prime Minister of the Cook Islands Jim Marurai said on Thursday he hoped to know more about the Chinese history and culture, when visiting Xi'an, a famous historic city in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
When meeting with Shaanxi Provincial Governor Yuan Chunqing, Marurai said the Cook Islands highly valued the friendship with China and was grateful for the long-term support and cooperation given by China, adding that the Cook Islands will firmly adhere to the one-China policy.
Yuan called Marurai a good friend of the Chinese people, saying he hoped the two countries take the 10th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year as an opportunity to expand friendly exchanges.
Marurai arrived in Beijing Monday, kicking off his one-week official visit to China as guest of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. This is the first official visit to China of Marurai since he took office in 2004. He will leave for Shanghai Friday to continue his China tour.
