Chinese and Japanese gathered at a reception hosted by the Japanese embassy Friday in Beijing to mark the 35th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan.
Senior Chinese legislator Lu Yongxiang said the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations 35 years ago turned a new chapter of bilateral ties.
With the common efforts of insightful people in the two countries, China and Japan have witnessed progress in exchanges in various fields, said Lu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body.
China is willing to work with Japan to push forward bilateral relations for sound and steady growth based on the three political documents governing bilateral ties, while keeping in mind the spirit of "taking history as a mirror and looking to the future", Lu said.
Japanese Ambassador Yuji Miyamoto said Japan appreciates the efforts both Japanese and Chinese people have made in the past 35 years to advance bilateral relations.
He said he hoped the two countries could further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, adding that Japan will make its utmost efforts to this end.
The Chinese side held a grand reception in Beijing on Thursday to mark the 35th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and former Japanese prime ministers Mori Yoshiro and Tomiichi Murayama were present along with some 600 guests.
