China has sent a five-men team in advance to Sudan's Darfur, to prepare equipments of a scheduled 315-men engineering unit, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao on Thursday.
Liu said when responding to a journalist question that the five-men team has arrived at Sudan Thursday, adding another 135-men advance troop will also leave for Sudan in recent days.
"On whether the deployment of a total 315-men engineering unit to Darfur will be delayed, we will arrange (the deployment) in accordance with the general layout of the United Nations," said Liu.
He said the departure date of the other personnel of the scheduled engineering unit is yet to be set by the United Nations.
China has been committed to sending a 315-men multi-functional engineering unit to Darfur in early October, which would be the first batch of UN-AU peacekeepers in place in Darfur, according to China's Special Representative on African Affairs Liu Guijin. Source:Xinhua
