China on Tuesday expressed its welcome to the United Nations' special advisor on Myanmar and said it hoped he would visit China soon.
"We welcome him to visit China as soon as possible and we are consulting with the UN on relevant arrangements," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao at a regular press conference.
Ibrahim Gambari, special advisor on Myanmar, began his Asian tour in Thailand on Sunday. He will also visit Malaysia, Indonesia, India, China and Japan.
Liu said China had noticed Gambari's Asian tour during which he exchanged views with relevant nations on the Myanmar issue.
Gambari paid a visit to Myanmar two weeks ago. His current Asian tour is aimed at facilitating a second visit to Myanmar.
