China's Macao Government Tourist Office (MGTO) launched the Macao Festival in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday in a bid to attract more Malaysian visitors to Macao.
The launch was officiated by Tunku Iskandar, the Group President of Pacific World Travel and MGTO Representative in Malaysia.
The Macao Festival, running from Oct. 18 to 21, showcases the lively destination of Macao, with its unique blend of Western and Oriental Cultures.
Attractions at the festival, aimed at enabling families and individuals to "Experience Macao", includes Portuguese folk dances, Chinese acrobatics, soprano and tenor performances, cabaret dances, games, limbo rock competition, clowns with balloons, tattoo artists, lucky draw and prize giving ceremony, and free culinary delicacies from Macao.
The "Best Photo of the Day" contest with famous Macao replica Ruins of St. Paul, will see a winner taking home a Canon photo printer each day.
Among the fabulous holiday packages to Macao to be won at the festival are tickets to watch the 54th Macao Grand Prix Live.
A special booth has also been created for sales promotion of tours to Macao by 6 Malaysian travel agencies.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, MGTO held "Meet in Macao", a travel trade event here, for travel industry representatives of Malaysia and Macao to further strengthen business ties and to exchange ideas for more interesting tour packages for Malaysian travelers.
In conjunction with the Macao Festival, AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines are offering tickets to Macao at attractive prices to promote the route.
AirAsia will increase the flights between Kuala Lumpur and Macao from three times a day to four times a day since Nov. 6, Tunku Iskandar told reporters after the launch ceremony, adding that it will only cost 99 ringgit (29 U.S. dollars) for promotion.
"Malaysia is the fourth largest source of visitors for Macao," said Tunku Iskandar.
For the whole year of 2006, Macao welcomed 202,821 Malaysian tourists.
"And for this year, we expect to welcome around 400,000 Malaysian tourists, a 100 percent increase from 2006," said Tunku Iskandar, adding that in the first three quarters of this year, Macao received a total of 256,264 Malaysian tourist arrivals, a 97.5 percent increase on a year-on-year basis.
