Major global news media have continued to give prominence to the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which closed in Beijing on Sunday.

The media in Vietnam were no exception. The People's Army newspaper said China will continue to develop socialism with Chinese characteristics at a new historic point.

The Tuoi Tre said the congress set out important guidelines and policies for a new stage in China's reform and development and set the goals of promoting socialist modernization and reform and opening-up and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

The Youth in Vietnam said the congress put the scientific outlook on development into the party's constitution, which determines the direction of China's future development. China will pay more attention to environmental protection, the paper said.

Malaysian media also gave the congress extensive coverage, highlighting the enshrining of the scientific outlook on development into the CPC constitution.
The Nanyang Siang Pau said the congress captured world attention.

By enshrining the scientific outlook on development in its constitution, the CPC has made a commitment to the Chinese people and to the whole world that it will follow the path of sustainable development and make sure the fruits of development are shared by all people, the Singapore United Morning Post said.

Based on the concept of sustainable economic growth, the CPC's new central leadership has shifted from its policy that prioritized rapid economic growth and has now given priority to finding solutions to environmental pollution and energy conservation, Japan Economic News reported on Monday.

Russia's three major news agencies -- Itar-Tass, RIA Novosti and Interfax -- Russian Television, and the country's newspapers including Vremya Novostei, Nezavisimaya Gazeta and Commersant also reported the conclusion of the 17th CPC National Congress.

The Interfax news agency said the national congress has made an evaluation of China's current situation, summarized the experiences of economic, political and social development and set out future tasks for the nation.

Reform and opening up have continued to propel China's economic development, Vremya Novostei said, adding that the congress has set the guidelines of narrowing the rich-poor gap, building a nationwide social security system and protecting the environment.

The Commersant noted that prevention of ecological damage is a major part of the scientific outlook on development.

Swiss French-language television reported that the CPC has written the scientific outlook on development into the party's constitution and has stressed balanced development as a safeguard to stable and healthy development of China's economy.

Other Swiss media also noticed CPC leaders have listed income distribution, employment, social security, medical care and education as their priorities.
Nigerian newspaper The Guardian praised the CPC's determination to continue reform and opening-up, terming it "absolutely right."

Youssef Amin Wali, former Egyptian deputy prime minister and deputy chairman of the ruling National Democratic Party, said the 17th CPC National Congress was an important conference, which mapped out the future five-year plan for China's modernization.

Enshrining the scientific outlook on development in the party's constitution shows the CPC has placed an emphasis on solving social issues amid modernization and economic growth so that these social issues would not affect economic development, Youssef said.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Abul Gheit said on Sunday the 17th CPC National Congress was an important conference and has drawn the world's attention. He offered his congratulations on its success.
