Overseas media have given prominence and extensive coverage to the just-concluded 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) that elected a new leadership.

Bulgarian newspaper Duma on Monday devoted two pages to reports on the conclusion of the 17th CPC National Congress, the recent changes in the Chinese society and the economic achievements China has made.

Newspaper Trud said the incorporation of the Scientific Outlook on Development into the party constitution showed China will strive to achieve stable economic development and build a harmonious society while making efforts to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor in the future.

Newspaper 24 Chasa said the CPC Congress unprecedentedly addressed the concerns regarding environmental protection.

Leading Portuguese newspapers Journal de Noticial and Correio da Manha reported the conclusion of the 17th CPC National Congress with both stories and photos.

Journal de Noticial said the Congress has added the Scientific Outlook on Development to the party constitution, which showed that the concept would become a guiding principle for China's future economic and social development.
German media including Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) and Der Spiegel on Monday all carried reports on the election of the new leadership of the CPC.

The DPA believed China's reforms are irreversible, and Der Spiegel said the newly-elected members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee are younger and better educated, and most of the Central Committee members have received higher education.

Azerbaijan's state television, the ANS TV, and the Trend News Agency on Monday all reported the group debut made by the new CPC leadership line-up led by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

Trend News Agency said the top priorities of the new leadership will be to adhere to the policies of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, reform and opening-up, building a harmonious socialist society, resolutely fighting corruption, narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, and promoting environmental protection.

Colombian newspaper La Republica carried a signed article paying tribute to the huge achievements China has scored since it began reform and opening-up some 30 years ago. It also said China's rapid development has given a strong impetus to the world economy.

French newspaper Les Echos said that after some 30 years of fast economic growth, China has realized that social policies should be strengthened. The CPC Congress has pledged to increase education budgets, improve social security policies and ensure a fairer distribution of income, it said.

Munhwa Ilbo newspaper in South Korea said the Scientific Outlook on Development charts the course of China's economic development in the future, adding that the CPC leadership will strive for thorough implementation of the concept, which has been written into the party constitution.

Mainstream media in Tunisia have given continuous and extensive coverage to the CPC Congress, stressing that the event will have an important and far-reaching influence on China's future development.

The Ivorian News Agency (AIP) carried reports on the conclusion of the 17th CPC Congress and the election of a new CPC leadership.

The AIP said the Congress is of vital importance to China's development in the next five years as it summed up China's experience in its economic, political and social development, set out future tasks, incorporated the Scientific Outlook on Development into the party constitution and laid emphasis on balanced development, so as to ensure healthy and stable development of the national economy.
