Liu Qi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said Saturday China hopes to enrich the contents of the strategic partnership of cooperation between China and India.
Liu, also secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Indian Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi.
He said China and India have a deep friendship and the two countries share broad space for cooperation.
"We hope to continuously deepen and expand the friendly cooperation between the two countries and enrich the contents of the China-India strategic partnership of cooperation," said Liu.
As President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games, Liu also briefed Sonia Gandhi on the preparation of the Olympic Games, which is set to open in August, 2008, and the development of Beijing.
Sonia Gandhi, who is also leader of the Indian United Progressive Alliance, said she had seen great changes taking place in China at his fourth visit to China and she was happy to see the continuous development of India-China relations.
She suggested the two sides further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, particularly on the exchanges of the youth.
Sonia Gandhi is in China for a five-day visit at the invitation of the CPC.
Besides Beijing, Sonia Gandhi will visit Xi'an, capital of northwestern Shaanxi Province, and China's economic hub Shanghai.
