Liaoning and Sichuan provinces look set to join the trillionaire club, with gross domestic products (GDP) of more than 1 trillion yuan ($134 billion) this year.
The provinces will join seven other members, from the country's 31 provinces, to wear the mantle.
Liaoning and Sichuan are beneficiaries of the nation's strong economic growth, former statistics minister Li Deshui, said.
The other provinces and municipalities to have made the mark are Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Henan and Hebei.
Li said the country's GDP is expected to surpass 23 trillion yuan this year, which would put it level with with Germany, the world's third-largest economy.
Liaoning, a traditional heavy-industry hub, recorded economic growth of 15.1 percent in the first three quarters of the year.
The province has seen double-digit growth since its GDP hit 545.8 billion yuan in 2002, figures from the provincial statistic bureau showed.
"It proves the central government's strategic decision to rejuvenate the traditional industrial powerhouses in the northeastern areas were entirely wise and farsighted," Li Keqiang, former Party chief of Liaoning and the newly elected member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 17th CPC Central Committee, said.
Sichuan, a business hub in the country's southwest, saw 14.1 percent growth in the same period.
Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences researcher Zhou Jiang said the rise will fuel the economic development of the region.
The province boasts rich resources including natural gas and power, Zhou said.
Experts say a stable and fast-growing economy will help more provinces achieve the trillion-yuan mark in the next few years
Beijing is poised to become the 10th to join the group next year.
