President of Cote d'Ivoire Laurent Gbagbo said in Abidjan on Friday that his country is committed to enhancing friendship and cooperation with China.

Gbagbo made the remark when meeting with visiting Chinese assistant foreign minister Zhai Jun.

He thanked China for its generous aid and its defense of Cote d'Ivoire's rights on various international occasions.

He said his country would continue to observe the one China policy and strive hard to consolidate bilateral ties.

Zhai said the Chinese government is satisfied with bilateral cooperation in the past 24 years since both countries established diplomatic ties.

He said China appreciates Cote d'Ivoire's adherence to the one China policy and is keen to enhance mutual political trust and pragmatic cooperation.

Zhai arrived here Thursday for a working visit to Cote d'Ivoire. He has also met Prime Minister Guillaume Soro and Foreign Minister Youssouf Bakayoko.

During his visit, both sides also signed agreements on issues including economic and technical cooperation.
