Du Qinglin has been appointed the head of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to replace Liu Yandong, a statement from the CPC Central Committee said Sunday.
Du, born in 1946, was no longer the Party secretary of southwestern China's Sichuan Province. The post was taken by Liu Qibao, former Party head of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to the statement.
Liu, 62, vice chairwoman of the Tenth CPPCC National Committee, was elected member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in October.
