Two people were killed and eight injured in an explosion of a pipeline in Taiyuan, capital of north China's Shanxi Province, on Saturday.

The explosion occurred at 11:18 a.m. and blew off road surface in the Yingze South Street.

The casualties were guests to a wedding banquet at a nearby hotel and migrant workers who were paving the road at the time of explosion, said Gen Yanbo, vice mayor of Taiyuan.

One people died on the spot while the other died hours later from injuries in the hospital, Gen added.

Authorities blocked traffic on the street in case of further explosions. The Taiyuan government is investigating the cause of the explosion.
