The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has told China's top nuclear negotiator Wu Dawei that the country will fulfill its commitments and promote the process of the six-party talks, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Thursday.
Qin Gang made the remarks at a regular press conference, saying that the DPRK briefed Wu, who has just concluded a visit to the DPRK, on DPRK's implementation of the second phase action plan and said that it is ready to fulfill its commitments and promote the process of the six-party talks.
Wu, who is also vice foreign minister, paid a visit to the DPRK from Dec. 17 to 19, during which he met with the DPRK Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun, and held talks with his counterpart Kim Kye-Gwan, exchanging views on issues related to the six-party talks, said Qin.
Wu also inspected the process of disablement of nuclear facilities in Yongbyon, saying the disablement process is going on smoothly under the procedure agreed by the six-party talks.
Qin called on all concerned parties of the talks to continue to implement their respective obligations on the basis of the "actions for actions" principle, carry out the second phase action plan in a comprehensive and balanced way and jointly promote the six-party talks process towards new progress.
According to a six-party talks joint document released in Beijing on Oct. 3, the DPRK agreed to disable all its existing nuclear facilities and provide a complete and correct declaration of all its nuclear programs by the end of this year.
The document said the disablement of the five-megawatt Experimental Reactor, the Reprocessing Plant (Radiochemical Laboratory) and the Nuclear Fuel Rod Fabrication Facility in Yongbyon would be completed by Dec. 31.
