Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Australian counterpart Kevin Rudd sent messages to each other Friday to hail the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Wen said in the message that bilateral relations have all along moved forward smoothly since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 35 years ago. The sound development of bilateral ties not only benefits the two peoples, but contribute to peace, stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.
He said the two countries nowadays are enjoying major opportunities to further boost their ties. China is willing to work together with Australia to promote continued long-term sound development of bilateral ties from a strategic perspective, he added.
Rudd said Australia-China ties have made huge progress over the past 35 years, and the two countries are enjoying ever strong friendship and partnership. The two peoples proudly cherish good feelings toward each other. This would help make their bilateral relations even closer and push the relations, based on mutual respect, understanding and common interests, to a new high.
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his Australian counterpart Stephen Smith also sent messages of congratulations to each other on Friday.
China and Australia forged diplomatic ties on Dec. 21, 1972.
