Zhou Xiaodi, an entrepreneur in Shanghai, has been expelled from the Shanghai municipal committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on suspicion of having arranged an attack on a business partner.

The standing committee of the CPPCC Shanghai municipal committee met on Wednesday and made the decision to expel him. Police have detained Zhou and are investigating the case.

Zhou allegedly confessed to police that he masterminded the crime and his driver hired other people to assault the victim.

The victim was seriously wounded on Nov. 6, according to media reports.

Zhou, 52, founded the Zhou Group in 1992 and has conducted business in the fields of real estate, education and hospital education.
