Several senior Chinese officials on Monday night attended a concert in the National Center for the Performing Arts of China to celebrate the New Year of 2008.
The officials, including Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, watched the performance at the concert hall of the center, which was formerly known as the National Grand Theater.
During the concert, a number of well-known performers in the world, including Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa and Chinese pianist Lang Lang, staged pieces from both western symphonies and traditional Chinese songs.
Also at present were Beijing City's Communist Party chief Liu Qi and State Councilor Chen Zhili.
The egg-shaped futuristic center was officially launched into operation on Dec. 22 and its construction lasted from Dec. 2001 to late September 2007. Source: Xinhua
