The Fourth China International Vocal Competition (CIVC) has set a record 17,000 U.S dollars in the history of the event for its top prize winners, according to organizers.

The top prize is quite equal to awards of other similar international competitions, said the organizing committee.

The singing competition, which is held every three years, is slated for October in Ningbo, east China's Zhejiang Province.

After three rounds of competition, four musicians will be selected as winners for each of the male and female groups, and another two will win the special prize for excellent performance of Chinese songs, with one specially reserved for foreign participants.

The top two prizewinners from male and female groups will each receive 17,000 U.S. dollars. The organizing committee will provide each participant 200 to 400 U.S. dollars for traveling expenses.

According to the organizing committee, the jury panel of the competition is composed of members from countries around the world, including Russia, Italy, Austria, Romania, Germany, Greece, the United States, among whom many are world-famous musicians.

In addition to traditional items on the playbill, such as aria, the competition committee has for the first time selected 10 Chinese songs.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the CIVC is one of the major international music competition events in China.

The first and second competitions of CIVC were held respectively in Guangzhou and Beijing. The third competition was held in Ningbo in 2005, which hereafter becomes its permanent venue.
