Tajikistan is opposed to Taiwan's "referendum on UN membership," the country's foreign ministry said in a statement Wednesday.
Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China, said the statement.
It said Tajikistan adheres to the one-China policy, and supports China's efforts to pursue peaceful reunification and safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Tajikistan opposes any attempt at "Two Chinas" or "One China, One Taiwan," it said.
Tajikistan severely condemns the so-called independence of Taiwan in any form, including the "de jure independence, and it is also opposed to Taiwan's attempt to join any international and regional organizations, to which only sovereign states are entitled," said the statement.
Tajikistan called on Taiwan to give up the planned referendum on UN membership, which will hamper peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, it said. Source: Xinhua
