The 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will hold its second plenary session in Beijing from Feb. 25-27, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decided at a meeting on Friday.

The meeting was presided by Chinese President Hu Jintao, who is also the General Secretary of CPC Central Committee.

The Politburo meeting also discussed a proposal on further deepening of the reform on the administrative system and a draft plan on the restructuring of central departments under the State Council.

The meeting concluded that deepening government reform is an inevitable requirement for developing socialistic market economy and political democracy.

The participants agreed that government reform must be pushed forward unswervingly and implemented in phases with the aim of building of an efficient and service-oriented government.

The meeting also discussed candidates for state leaders that will be proposed to the first session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC), as well as candidates for leaders of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) that will be submitted to the committee's first session.

The meeting decided that government reform and the above-mentioned candidates shall be further discussed at next week's plenary session of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

Friday's meeting also discussed the Government Work Report prepared by the State Council and agreed to submit it to the first session of the 11th NPC for approval.
