Featuring more than 30 performances by local and international artists, the upcoming 19th Macao Arts Festival (MAF) would reaffirm itself as a window to the latest creative trends to emerge on stages over the world, Heidi Ho Lai Chun da Luz, president of Macao's Cultural Affairs Bureau, told media on Thursday.
The annual arts event, held between May 1 and 30, will bring together theater, multimedia arts, dance and music in a selection extending even to lesser-known Asian traditions like Indian classical dance, according to the Cultural Affairs Bureau.
Macao's artists will be given the opportunity to debut made-by-Macao works on stages, along with international artists from Israel, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada and South Korea, who will add fresh flavor to the festival with unique performances.
The MAF is a clear support for local art talents which is expected to help foster local artistic creativeness, said Ho.
This year, The Macao Orchestra will make a substantial contribution to the event, beginning on May 5 with Pictorial England, a musical snapshot of early 20th century. The orchestra has invited renowned violin phenomenon Pinchas Zukerman to its Great Master Series on May 16.
Besides indoor shows, the event will also include The Outdoor Performing Arts Showcase, to be held at the city's Iao Hon Garden, which will see artists present a marathon of performances falling just outside the mainstream. Source: Xinhua
