According to the Jinghua Times, specific technical issues with regard to tour groups traveling to the United States are still being discussed. It is expected that the first tourist group to travel to the United States will take place in June, according to Zhang Xiqin, a member of the national committee of the CPPCC and deputy director of the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA).
Zhang Xiqin said that after China joined the WTO, more and more countries have become destinations for Chinese outbound tourism. Currently, more than 90 countries in the world have become open to Chinese tour groups organized by travel agencies. During the negotiation process with the United States Department of Commerce, China initiatively made the United States a destination for outbound Chinese tourism so that Chinese citizens could travel to the United States. The two sides have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Now both sides are negotiating on some specific technical issues.
Zhang Xiqin said that, after the official opening of Chinese tourism to the United States, visa procedures will be simplified. One goal is to assign each tour group with one visa.
