China will resume export of natural sand to Taiwan as from March 10, said Wang Xinpei, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on Friday.

Due to environmental and resource protection concerns, natural sand exports were banned in March 2007.

However, the move led to material shortages and rising costs in Taiwan's construction sector and island hopes the mainland to resume natural sand export as soon as possible, Wang said.

The mainland decided to resume the supply after serious consideration and welcome representatives from sand importers in Taiwan to discuss details in this regard. Six Taiwan organizations, including the sand import association, came to Beijing last November to negotiate concrete matters with relevant departments on the mainland.
