Tongan King Taufa'ahau Tupou V said on Thursday that Tonga adheres to one-China policy on the Taiwan issue and supports the measures adopted by China to handle the incident in Tibet.

Chinese President Hu Jintao (R) and Tongan King Taufa'ahau Tupou V (L) walk on the red carpet during the welcoming ceremony President Hu hosts for King Taufa'ahau Tupou V in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, April 10, 2008.

King Tupou V, who was here for a state visit as guest of Chinese President Hu Jintao, made the remarks in his official talks with Hu in this scenic city of China's island province of Hainan.

On Taiwan issue, Tonga firmly adheres to the one-China policy, he said.

He said Tonga supports the measures adopted by China to handle the incident that sabotaged social order in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

The China affairs can only be tackled by China and no interference from any foreign country is acceptable, the king said.

Hu thanked the king for his remarks.

Before the talks, Hu hosted a red-carpet ceremony to welcome King Tupou V and his delegation.
