Malaysia's Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) will donate 500,000 ringgit (152,905 U.S. dollars) for the earthquake victims in Sichuan province, China through the Chinese embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

The amount came from a donation drive organized by PCCC and the Penang Chinese Assembly Hall's fund-raising committee, PCCC's president Khor Teng Tong told a press conference in Malaysian northern Penang state on Friday.

"Various companies and individuals who are sympathetic towards the earthquake victims have contributed to the fund," the national news agency Bernama quoted Khor as saying.

The collection will be handed over to the embassy on May 21.

The PCCC has also donated 20,000 ringgit (6,116 U.S. dollars) to the Nargis Cyclone victims in Myanmar's Irrawaddy Delta.
