A number of foreign leaders and senior officials went to Chinese embassies on Monday and Tuesday to mourn victims of the deadly earthquake that hit southwest China's Sichuan Province last week.
Kim Yong Chun, Vice Chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and a number of other DPRK senior officials went to China's embassy in Pyongyang on Tuesday to offer their condolences.
On Monday, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Peruvian President Alan Garcia, chief of Chile's Senate Adolfo Zaldivar, Equatorial Guinea's Prime Minister Ricardo Mangue Obama Nfube, Cote d'Ivoire's Foreign Minister Youssouf Bakayoko and Lebanese Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh all went to the Chinese embassies in their respective countries to mourn the victims.
At least 34,073 people have been confirmed killed so far in the May 12 earthquake, which measured 8.0 on the Richter scale. China has declared May 19-21 a national mourning for the quake victims.
