Three Japanese college students were among those injured in a bus accident that also killed nine people on Friday in Anhui Province, the local government said Saturday.

Sakuai Noriko, Aoyagi Fumi and Kato Ayumi were among the 26 passengers aboard a bus that plunged into a nine-meter-deep ravine in Xiuning County, Huangshan City at 10:26 a.m. Friday.

Five passengers were killed at the site and another four died on the way to the Huangshan Municipal People's Hospital. Sixteen were injured.

The three female students, aged 24, 23 and 27, respectively, are enrolled at Shanghai Normal University.

The women, who sustained chest and abdominal injuries, a fractured pelvis and bleeding of the spleen, respectively, are in intensive care.

The governor and Party chief of Anhui have ordered local governments to work all-out to treat the injured.

The bus belongs to Huangshan-based Anchi Sightseeing Company.

Police questioned the driver, Wang Qiusheng, who was slightly injured, to ascertain the cause of the accident.
