The "Environmental-friendly Shopping Bag Distribution Campaign," initiated by the European Commission Delegation to China, was held in Metro Beijing's Wan Quanhe Store and Shi Lihe store on May 24th and 25th. Ten thousand cloth shopping bags were offered to customers in Metro Beijing stores to promote environmental protection concepts and practices.
The activity is jointly presented by the EU and Metro China. Mr. Magnus Gislev, First Secretary responsible for the Environment from the European Commission Delegation to China, and Mr. Zhang Shouchuan, General Manager of Metro China, distributed cloth shopping bags with staff from both sides. The action coincides with Chinese Government measures to reduce plastic bag waste.

They also carry environmental tips such as "turn off the lights in the room and corridor when not needed;" "choose energy-saving lamps;" "do not buy over-packaged goods;" "select goods with energy-saving and environmental protection labels." Organizers expect such environment-protection concepts to encourage conscientious action from the public.

By using fewer plastic bags, Chinese citizens concretely demonstrate their concern for the environment.”
Mr. Zhang Shouchuan says that "this public welfare activity is a continuation of the environment-protection concept which Metro China consistently adheres to, which embodies the social responsibility of Metro as a corporate citizen".
