Singaporean Foreign Minister George Yeo Yong Boon has congratulated the resumption of the cross-Straits talks in China, the Lianhe Zaobao newspaper reported on Sunday.

The foreign minister said while attending a community activity on Saturday that the resumption of talks between delegates from across the Taiwan Straits was of great significance.

On Thursday, Chen Yunlin, chairman of the Chinese mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) and Chiang Pin-kun, chairman of the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), started talks in Beijing, the first between the two organizations after a suspension of nine years.

The Singaporean minister also hailed the two agreements signed by the ARATS and the SEF and expressed the hope that the two sides will continue to make sound progress.
