Former Chief Cabinet Secretary KoichiKato on Thursday succeeded Ikuo Hirayama as chairman of the Japan-China Friendship Association.
Kato, the former secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and currently an LDP lawmaker, was selected for the post in a general meeting of the friendship body.
Established in October 1950, the association aims to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the two peoples, and advance bilateral trade and cultural exchanges.
