Algerian ambassador to China Djamel Eddine Grine expressed his confidence of the great success of the 2008 Beijing Olympics here on Thursday.
As an international metropolis, Beijing is equipped with enough infrastructure to successfully host this Olympics, and the Chinese people and the government have contributed a lot to the Games, he said.
Grine said as a friend of China he felt very happy and proud Beijing could be the host and was confident it would be a great success.
Algeria is sending 70 athletes to the Games, the most since the country declared independence, to compete in 13 sports. A third of the team is female.
Grine said the large team reflected Algerian's love and support for China.
The friendly ties between the two countries date back to the 1950s when China provided political, economic and military support for Algeria's fight against colonial rule.
Algeria also played a significant role in supporting China to restore its legitimate seat in the United Nations in the early 1970s.
Grine said the country had also set up a special committee to draw up preparation plans for its Olympic athletes, hoping they would achieve better results.
To encourage them, Algeria planned to award athletes and their coaches who had excellent results during the Games.
