Since the Olympics started six days ago, more than 20 million people have taken public transporation daily.
Zhou Zhengyu, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Committee of Communications said that during the six days since the opening of Olympics, the 34 special Olympic public transportation lines have carried more than 4.6 million passenages. On August 12, the subway carried 4.104 million people through the entire network, which is a record high.
Since the odd/even license plate number days were implemented, urban vehicle speed reached 43 km per hour, and the speed of ground public transport increased from the 14.5 km per hour to 20 km per hour. Zhou Zhengyu said that the current ratio of public transportation use has risen from 35 percent to 45 percent.
