Female has made up of 45.4 per cent of the total working population in China, according to news from the Women's Union on September 24, 2008.
Huang Qingyi, vice president of the Women's Union said that China's women's working structure has been optimized and women's employment has been transferring to higher-level industries. More and more women choose to engage in their own business, and 20 per cent of China's entrepreneurs are women, most of them managing the small and medium-sized enterprises.
Furthermore, Chinese women play a key role in the building of political democracy in China. At present, eight women are state and CPC leaders. The proportions of women representative in both NPC and CPPCC are 21.33 per cent and 17.7 per cent respectively.
