The State Council has decided to implement the National Land-Use Planning Outline (2006-2020), and authorized Xinhua News Agency to release the publication on October 23.
During the planning period, the amount of land reserved for cultivation in the country should be sustained at 1.818 billion mu and 1.805 billion mu by 2010 and 2020, respectively.
China's land use planning follows the basic principles of strict protection of cultivated land, economical and intensive land use, coordination of land use of all kinds and in all sectors, strengthening the eco-friendliness of land use, as well as, reinforcing the macro-regulation of land, according to the outline.
