China's independently developed Chang'e-2 satellite is scheduled to launch in 2010. An official at Beijing Aerospace City confirmed the news.
Chang'e-2's main mission is to obtain clearer and more detailed image data from the lunar surface and lunar polar areas. The CCD camera it will carry is of much higher resolution compared to Chang'e-1.
According to the plan, around 2012, China will launch one lunar landing vehicle and one moon rover to conduct probes on the lunar surface. The lunar landing vehicle will examine the lunar regolith, while the moon rover will carry out exploration within a five kilometer radius of the lunar landing vehicle.
