By the end of September 2008, the national circulation of UnionPay standard official cards broke through 1.2 million, according to the information from the China UnionPay.
Official cards refer to credit cards held by staffs of administrative units, mainly used for paying for daily business expenses and financial reimbursements. Besides being convenient for public officers, the official cards facilitate the checking of the payment behaviors of the officers, play a role in preventing expenditure corruption, and reduce the illegal usage of public money.
Wei Guo, Assistant President of the China UnionPay expressed that the issuance of the 1.2 million official cards indicate that the official cards will, in the future, enter a period of accelerated popularization. China UnionPay will join with related commercial banks to further accelerate the establishment of places where the official cards can be accepted.
